Annabelle's Curse with The Band Concord and Travis Stephens

The Empty Glass, 410 Elizabeth Street, Charleston, WV

"Annabelle’s Curse is a five-piece alternative folk band hailing from Bristol TN/VA, and sort of like the town where they were born, their music sits on the border between two places. One place finds them unplugged, on a large front porch, reveling in the old folk songs that they were raised on while their nearest and dearest friends and family drink and sing along. The other place is plugged in, awash in neon lights and drunk on the rock and roll spirit that drives them to leave the porch, pile in a van, and play long into the night while the anonymous drinkers dance. Their music feels like these two different places at the same time, but like the city that they call home, it’s just two sides of one place and one sound – a sound that they can truly call their own.'

The Band Concord has spent their entire lives saturated in sound. Growing up mesmerized by the strum of a guitar, the beat of a drum, the playing of a piano - they all know that it would stay with them forever.

It wasn't until the Fall of 2012, when lead Spencer Pugh (Vocals/Guitar) and Andrew Steger(Mandolin/Banjo) met that the group began to form. Based in Blacksburg, Virginia, the duo transitioned from dorm room rehearsals to opening for The Maine to being featured on The Avett Brothers' Facebook page and quickly found their footing in the music industry.

The additions of Jason Agola (Violin), Braden Burns (Drums), and Alex Winemiller (Bass), rounded out and solidified the group’s folk sound. Hailing from all across Virginia, together this five-piece group makes The Band Concord.

Over the past few years, The Band Concord has performed non-stop along the East Coast, from restaurants and breweries to pavilions and festivals. In August 2014, the band performed at American Music Festival in Virginia Beach, featuring artists Train, Hunter Hayes, Rusted Root and more.

Known for their love and playing of all things folk, The Band Concord shares a similar sound to that of The Head and the Heart and Fleet Foxes. Yet the group has expanded their musical palette even further with the release of their debut album, “Youth,” in April 2014 – introducing a twist to their traditional folk style with an emphasized pop sound in the single “Golden Road.
